Single ride or day ticket?
A single ride costs about 1.70 EUR and is valid for 90 minutes including transfers. The day ticket, about 5 EUR, is valid until end of service and pays off from three rides.
Rule of thumb: if you mostly walk around the historic centre between the Duomo, the Uffizi and the Ponte Vecchio, you may not need a ticket at all – most sights are within walking distance.
The lines you actually need
Tram line T1 links Santa Maria Novella station with the west of the city, while the T2 runs from the centre straight to Florence-Peretola (Vespucci) airport in about 20 minutes.
Regular bus lines serve day trips to Fiesole or viewpoints such as Piazzale Michelangelo; buy your ticket in advance at a machine or in the app, as buses often have limited on-board sales.
Validation, checks and luggage
Paper tickets must be validated at the small machine on the bus or tram before travel; digital tickets in the app are valid automatically from purchase. Checks are frequent and fines cost far more than the fare.
Normal luggage travels free; for an airport transfer with a large suitcase the T2 tram is still more comfortable than the bus.
