Florence Duomo tickets: Brunelleschi's Dome, prices and buying advice

Visiting the cathedral interior is free and needs no booking. Only the dome climb and the Brunelleschi Pass, which bundles the dome, Giotto's Campanile, the Baptistery, the crypt and the Museo dell'Opera del Duomo, are chargeable and require a slot.

Timed-entry tickets for the dome climb are the most practical option: you book a slot and skip the ticket desk queue. Guided tours usually combine the dome with the Baptistery and explain Brunelleschi's engineering.

It is quietest right after morning opening and in the final hour before closing. There is no lift up the dome; the 463 steps are narrow and partly one-way only.

A dress code applies: shoulders and knees must be covered. Leave large backpacks and suitcases at the hotel, as there is no cloakroom at the entrance.

Check whether the price covers only the dome climb or the full Brunelleschi Pass with the Campanile, Baptistery and museum. The pass is often cheaper than two separate bookings and is valid for 72 hours.

The second thing to check is the cancellation window. Many providers refund up to 24 hours before the slot, which matters for fixed-time tickets when your plans may still change.
